I began this artwork by creating a list on my favorite objects and my own personality traits/interests. Afterwards, I narrowed down my list to several of my favorite items: My Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany's Blu-rays, my iced coffee, and my Chobani Greek yogurt. I really felt that these objects were somewhat of a trademark for me, because I am constantly found drinking iced coffee and eating Greek Yogurt. Also, I am always going online to find DVDs of Old Hollywood films.
Afterwards, I began to figure out where I should place each object, as well as how I could convey a realistic portrayal of each object. After several sketches, I finally knew where and how to draw each objects, which was rather difficult. I had to take into consideration the shading and which part of the objects I should display. The angle of my artwork could really affect how my audience viewed my work.
I realized while creating this artwork that each object I chose held different meanings. For example, drawing a container of Greek yogurt meant to me that I enjoy this savory snack, but to others it could convey that I try to be a healthy person. But, I feel that my Old-Hollywood DVDs were the most ambiguous objects. Honestly, they could be perceived as a disdain for today's pop culture, which is not true at all. In fact, I enjoy every decade of film. I did find it rather difficult to find my all-time top films, but in choosing Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany's also displays my love for iconic movies, as well as the actor Humphrey Bogart, and the actresses Audrey Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman.
My favorite part of the artwork was the process. I had a clear idea of a layout, and I wanted to create a piece of relaxation, which I feel that I successfully did. I not only wanted people to see a series of objects, but the mood they all created together. After a bit of tinkering with the iced coffee and DVDs designs, I felt finally satisfied with my objects.
Nevertheless, I do feel pleased with the outcome of my project. I thought that I would do a terrible job at drawing the blu-rays specifically, but it come out as coherent as I could possible sketch. Otherwise, I've realized that the quality of my artwork shouldn't be my priority, but I should be how my audience receives it. All I want is for my viewers to know that these objects matter a lot to me, and if I can successfully communicate this idea, then I can feel fully satisfied with my work. But I still hope that people will feel inspired to watch Casablanca because it's a fantastic movie.
